Artist Statement Many artists have an underlying statement in their work. This is also true for Paulsen-Chmielewski. She often said, “As an adult in our society, we often forget about our dreams and inspirations. Our dreams are pushed aside with our everyday adult responsibilities”. Terra has been fortunate through the youthful and uninhibited wisdom of her daughter to wipe away the dust from our imagination and to dream without our society deeming it unworthy. It is in this dreaming that Terra found her inner artist. She believes in three little words; inspiration is everything. She hopes her work will let others understand and enjoy the artistic journey she has imagined, dreamed and created.

Paulsen-Chmielewski once said, “In all the things that I do, the basic component is curiosity and a quest for creative expression. The source of my inspiration has evolved from my imagination, what I would like displayed in my own home, or from daily events of my life. I have always been drawn to color and decorating. All of my art pieces have originated from an idea I had to redecorate my own home. I am passionate about creating original artwork that anyone can purchase to decorate their home or office and to help them celebrate the artful side of life. I love to encourage creativity in others, helping them to find that inner artist that lives inside all of us through my artwork”.

Her work can be classified as experimental watercolor. Her abstract style is a mix of Cubism, Symbolism, and Futuristic Art. Several pieces also have an influence of the prairie style that Frank Lloyd Wright made popular. Her work includes simple lines, shapes and textures, yet intricately visually balances all colors

Paulsen-Chmielewski has been designing and creating art for the past 19 years, with the past 5 years as a professional artist. The Wisconsin Dental Association and University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh own large permanent collections of Paulsen-Chmielewski’s work. Terra has also sold countless pieces of her work to private purchasers and collectors. During her short time as a professional artist, she has been honored with several awards; International Finalist Awards, State and Regional Awards, Best of Show, Merit Awards, and People’s Choice Awards.
