Artist Statement Chad Lubbers was born in 1966 in Burke, South Dakota and grew up fishing and hiking in the wooded valleys along the Missouri river. Chad began drawing wildlife at an early age and by high school had accumulated hundreds of sketches and pen & ink works. Lubbers attended South Dakota State University in Brooking, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Graphic Design while continuing to hone his drawing and painting skills. While in college Chad also explored sculpture and the exciting world of abstract art.

In 1990 Lubbers moved to Sioux Falls, SD where he began a career as a graphic designer. Here he discovered a budding fine art community and a growing appreciation for art. Over the next 18 years Chad has continued to develop as a fine artist while working full time as a designer. He sells his art online throughout the country and has participated in numerous local exhibits.

Lubbers describes his work as “Post-Expressionist” studies in texture and glazes. “ I want my paintings to evoke emotion through the texture and transparent layers of the paint. The techniques I use allow me to convey emotion in a variety of ways. I want people to get up close to see the multiple variations of color in the layers and want to touch it.” His abstracts range from subtle pulled color blends to high contrast splashes and pours.
