Description The green turaco is a species of turaco, a group of tree-dwelling birds. They are found in forests of West and Central Africa, ranging from Senegal east to Congo and south to northern Angola. Turacos make up the bird family Musophagidae, which literally means banana -eaters. These birds have unique pigments giving them their bright green and red feathers. As their name suggests, turacos enjoy eating bananas and can become very tame as they accept hand-fed pieces of banana, grapes, or papaya. These gregarious birds do not migrate, but move in packs or family groups of up to10. Turacos are medium-sized arboreal birds (10 -16 inches long) endemic to sub-Saharan African countries, where they live in forests, woodland and savanna.
