Jack Maynard Member Since April 2007 Artist Statement I have been in love with photography since I was a kid. I used to save my allowance to pay for film developing. I can still remember using the old 4-sided flash cube. ;-)
I shot 35mm film and slide photography for a bunch of years on a Canon AE-1, but when digital came along I was sold. I was so early into digital I think I paid nearly $1000 for my 3 MP Olympus C3030Z (which I still have and use). I shoot a lot of my flower macros with a 8 MP Sony Cybershot DSC-N1 because the macro feature works great, and I don't have a good macro lens for my primary camera, a 10 MP Nikon D200. But I LOVE shooting with my D200!!!
If you look at my photos you will find that I mostly shoot photos without people in them. I like the stillness and solitute of flowers and abandon buildings. Ocassionally I will shoot a people shot, but it's not my first love. Other people do that so much better than me.
I was never interested in photography as a living. Since I make a good living, I don't have to ruin a perfectly good hobby by trying to make money at it. However, I am not opposed to accepting a check for a photo if something really strikes you. ;-)
