Description Original painting of the Panther tank commanded by Oberfeldwebel Heinz Bergmann, of the 26th Panzer Regiment that was attached to the crack Grossdeutschland Panzer Division, counter-attacking East toward the town of Wilkowischken near the East Prussian border on the 9th August 1944. After recapturing the town, defensive positions were taken up and the next day Bergmanns solitary Panther defeated a counter-attack by 14 Russian tanks, destroying 4, and breaking up the supporting infantry attack. Later, supported by another Panther, two further attacks were repulsed, destroying 4 self-propelled guns and inflicting severe losses on the attached infantry battalion.
