Artist Statement Tad Michael Wheeler possesses talents and interests in many different directions. As an artist, he is known primarily for his watercolors and graphic design work; he is also an engineer, art collector, producer, musician, photographer, designer, and filmmaker.

Born under the sign of Gemini he is equally accomplished in all of his diverse pursuits. Since early childhood he was fortunate to be exposed to the world of art through the printing industry: his mother not only fueled his appreciation for art but also helped develop his musical talent. After moving to Denver, Colorado at a very young age he began to show a special direction and sensitivity toward both visual and musical arts.

Wheeler soon became entrenched in academic studies and began to develop accelerated proficiency in mathematics and science. The balance of logic and creativity developed in his early years remained a strong influence on his character and his work—an influence which has endured throughout his career.

Wheeler’s artistic aspirations were somewhat diverted during his years spent at the Colorado School of Mines, purportedly to “follow a more substantial career in engineering.” Inevitably, his studies gravitated toward computers, which he later combined with his artistic talents in the areas of software development, computer graphics, and user interface design.

Upon graduating from the Colorado School of Mines, Wheeler began work in the aerospace industry, and after six years formed his own consulting company, Infinity Digital. During this time, he also continued his musical pursuits and composed and performed several soundtracks for multi-image and multimedia productions. His musical dreams were realized with the release of his first compact disc, “Silence In Motion,” in 1989. After establishing successful careers in the engineering, computer science, and music industries, the main focus of his creative energy turned to fine art.

It was at this time that Wheeler once again realized the importance of a balance of logic and creativity in his life. Although engineering and computer graphics fulfilled a certain area of artistic pursuits, there was something obviously missing. After brief encounters with sketching, pastels, and oils, Wheeler finally found his home in the world of fine arts with watercolors. Somehow the spontaneity and expressiveness of watercolors seemed to embody his creative expression.

Over the past two decades, Wheeler‘s active work program has resulted in the production of hundreds of works of fine art, easily demonstrating his pursuit of a personal and significant artistic vision. After being in several juried shows, in 2000 he had his first exhibition showing over 120 of his watercolor paintings. Wheeler’s inexhaustible energy and his insatiable curiosity continually lead him to explore and experiment with new, untried artistic images... consuming his entire being, at the same time enriching his own life and the lives of others who share his art.
