Artist Statement My name is Jess and I am the founder and creator of By Sight Photography. Some people would say that I’m obsessed with taking pictures and I wholeheartedly agree. I’ve been carrying a camera around with me pretty consistently since junior high and have always documented the lives of those around me (much to the annoyance of my friends and family — I’ve been called “paparazzi” more times than I can count).

Recently, my friends asked me to take engagement photos for them. It was my first time taking “professional” photos and it was a blast. Not only did we have a lot of fun, but their photos turned out amazing. As a result of their engagement session, I decided to start the transition to professional photography and so here we are!

Along with photography, some of my other passions include:

-travel (in the past 15 years I’ve been to over 20 countries)
-social justice (one of my majors in college was Peace Studies)
-public health (I’m in the process of completing my master’s thesis in maternal and child health/ global health/ public health)
-reading (I’m a huge book nerd)

That being said, in addition to engagement/ wedding/ family photography, I’m hoping to incorporate a few of my other passions in this website/ blog. To do this, I also have a page of my travel photography/ insights/ blog and hope to expand to a page with my photos/ a blog with information and links to feature various causes, organizations, and campaigns.
