Description Decorate your home in the Byzantine Mediterranean style.Historic Ohr Shalom Synagogue at 2512 Third Ave in San Diego California, Painting by RD Riccoboni 2010Built in the Byzantine style architecture between 1925 and 1926, the synagogue was designed by noted San Diego architect William H. Wheeler who also designed Balboa Theatre downtown. His treatment of the stately Ohr Shalom building, with its dominant domed roof, octagonal sanctuary and Middle Eastern decorative motifs, is one of the foremost examples of Mediterranean Revival, an American architectural style that caught momentum around the mid-1920s. Scheduled to be demolished about 12 years ago, the synagogue found a friend in Bruce Coons, executive director of the Save Our Heritage Organisation, a nonprofit founded in 1969 to preserve San Diegos historic architecture and landmarks many of which Mr. Riccoboni has captured and portrayed in his paintings. For a limited edition hand signed by the artist or an original artwork please visit my Studio #18 Gallery is located inside beautiful Spanish Village Art Center in Historic Balboa Park San Diego.
