From one of the most densely populated metros, Kolkata, the city of Satyajit Ray, Ravindranath Tagore, and Mother Teresa, I am Sourav Bose. My interest in art goes back a long time since I was a kid and my grandmother used to draw various animal figures for me to draw on them. Gradually, my father discovered my talent in art and took me to an Art school where I learned the basics. I started to win some prizes in Sit and Draw competitions. Later on studies took over although my interest in art never waned. I got a job and then my mother passed away. This sort of swept into the arms of Art as a means of grappling with the immense grief and I took some private tuition to learn Oil and Acrylic painting. My inspiration in art was sparked by the Old Masters and painters like Vermeer whom I consider my guiding light, Dali, Hals etc. My images generally contain vibrant colors, dark luscious tones and sometimes grim subject matter. To explore the inner chaos, struggle between good and evil, neurotic fantasies have been my artistic goal. Surrealism and abstract art fascinate, but so does the Dutch Genre painting masterpieces for their brilliant attention to details and depiction of light and shadow.
