Artist Statement Allan Saulis
Commercial, Fine Artist, Sculpture, Photographer & Air Brush Artist.

Allan received art lessons at a very early age from his brother Rueban Deveau and cousin (Dozay) Arlene Nicholas. He has studied under Fred Ross, Molly Lamb Bobak and Brigid Toole-Grant at the Sunbury Shores Arts and Nature Centre, St. Andrews N.B..

In the early 90’s he attended (NMTC) Northern Maine Technical College in Presque Isle Maine for Drafting/Carpentry.

In 1996 Allan moved to New Mexico to work as a sculpture assistant with world renowned artist sculpture Tim Nicola (Penobscot). He went back to school in 1997, Allan received an Associates of Arts in Advertising Art at ”The Art Center” in Albuquerque, NM. Which included computer graphic design, illustration, web design, marketing and advertising. He is also an avid photographer.

In 2004 he was recognized by his peers as an “Up and coming artist” from the (N.B.A.B) New Brunswick Arts Board.

In 2005 he opened retail Arts & Crafts store called “Wabanaki Creations”
His painting “Bee Cheh” was showcased in the 2009-2010 “Species at Risk” calendar for the department of Fisheries and Oceans which promoted species at risk within Aboriginal communities and across Atlantic Canada. It also appeared in the international and domestic Dona Cona “Habitat for Life” calendars. Also in 2009 he was one of the first indigenous people to show his paintings and sculpture at the Lord Beaverbrook Gallery in Fredericton at the “Ekpahak” (Where the Tide Ends) exhibit including the Grandfather Akwiten Canoe returned from Ireland.

In 1010 his image called “Getting Nowhere” appeared again for “Wolastoq (Beautiful River) The St. John River Project” - a large-scale exhibition that explored the multiple aesthetic, geographical, historical, sociological, environmental, and cultural meanings of the St. John River through the lens of contemporary and historic works of art by a cross-section of New Brunswick’s visual artists.

In 2011 his art appeared at the Kluscap Art Gallery in Moncton N.B. and went on a hiatus until now.
And is currently experimenting with the Airbrush.
