Artist Statement

Tom Diamantopoulo started his career as a songwriter and musician in the influential band The Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster, together they released three albums and toured the UK, Europe and America.

While music kept him busy up until his 30's he continued to pursue his first love - fine art, painting whenever he could. For the past 10 years he has devoted his time fully to his art, developing and exploring many different styles. Having not had the opportunity to embark on his art degree due to his music career he is a self taught artist, spending four years mastering hyper realistic portraiture, then gradually exploring industrial surrealism and finally devoting his time fully to abstract expressionism.

He now works from his studio in Brighton creating large abstract works which are rooted in colourism and expressionism. He was born colour blind but despite this he continues to explore his love for colour within juxtaposed textures and abstraction. He works on large canvasses in oil, using various techniques such as glazing, impasto and collage.
