Alicia Strausbaugh, St. Louis Member Since May 2008 Artist Statement I'm a local photographer in the St. Louis area. I'm 28 and was born and raised in St. Louis. I'm just starting out and have only been serious about photography for about 8 months. My favorite subjects are nature and still life but I also like to take "abstract" shots of ordinary things that catch my attention. Quite often, I just "point and shoot" to see what shows up. It's amazing the things you would never notice until it's on "film", so to speak. My motto is to uncover truth and beauty in the everyday, every day.
All of my work is digital, but I would like to branch out into other mediums. I'm starting to hand color my pieces after printing and would love to experiment with different types of paper. Eventually, I'd like to explore using film and try different developing methods to achieve multiple effects. Currently, I print all my work on watercolor paper to give my pieces a matte effect and make them appear more like they are painted. I use a Kodak program to achieve different effects but all of the actual images are real and not photoshopped.
I have my entire collection posted on Myspace, www.myspace.com/astrausbaughphotography and I'm also showing some pieces at 2 local frameshops in the St. Louis area. The following is my artist statement...
A passion for color and light drives the artist to uncover truth and beauty in the everyday, every day. The artist uses photography to capture ordinary moments, otherwise unnoticed, and transform them into color statements.
All photography is taken using a Canon digital Elph SD1000. All pieces are printed on Canson watercolor paper using an HP color printer. All pieces are subject to the artist’s finishing touch through Kodak Picture Maker.
A.Strausbaugh has no formal training beyond general art classes at the college level.
