Lydia Quinn, Toms River, NJ Member Since March 2012 Artist Statement Welcome to my print site! I hope you enjoy my work. I'd like to tell you a little bit about me. I graduated from the school of Visual Arts in New York City and did some freelance work for awhile. Though soon after I married and raised two amazing children. My art was limited to small projects for my children and friends for a long time. Art has always been a great passion of mine so about six years ago when my children were grown I found myself wanting to go back to art. One day, out of the blue, my niece asked me to do a painting of the beach on an old window. It was that window that sparked everything. My passion is ten times stronger now than when I was a girl and I am loving it! I began to paint for my family, friends and now clients. I've been told that I see the world through rose colored glasses and my art is definitely a reflection of that. I think great art comes from great passion. Everything I paint comes from love first. It might be something I see, for example, light illuminating the colors in a field on a fall day or the way snow sparkles as the sun sets. When I did paintings for my family it was my love for them that fueled my work. I especially love the light at the end of the day because it's richer, more illuminating and sometimes known as the " magic hour." And I'm all about the magic. When I am commissioned to paint custom home portraits for clients, I like them to tell me what they love about their home or yard. If the light isn't evident in the photo I ask the client where the sun rises or sets by their home. If it's a special place for them than I want to feel it too so I imagine myself there in every painting. I paint everything at it's most beautiful state, almost dreamlike. Some ideas for my work come from life or photos and some from my own imagination. I hope you enjoy them and come visit me again.
