Artist Statement

To me, painting depicts the poetry of life. My passion is to capture the mood and emotions of the world around me. I strive to create paintings that mean something, to people. Whatever the emotion is, it does not matter. as long as people are moved by viewing my work. In the creation of my realistic and stylized art. I find that my colored pencils, oil paints , watercolor, pastels, acrylics and charcoal, all allow me the variations I crave to breath life into my visions. By developing vibrant layers of paint or circular or linear lines I am able to achieve the textures and energy of art that has fascinated me sense I was a child. Even today when I look back at some of my favorite children's books, I become lost in the images. It can be something as simple but as complex, as how light, color and shape come together, giving birth to an explosion of beauty.

When I'm creating my art I am always able to feel a sense of peace, and a connection to the deepest essence of myself. As an artist, I find the challenge of continually developing my own voice through my art immensely satisfying. And revel in all the journeys. Whether that be creating the luminosity of a child's skin, capturing the depth of wisdom that is etched across a fathers face, or infusing emotion into a still life or landscape. And when I'm truly successful at meeting these challenges, my paintings reflect the beauty of each person, subject, or place that I portray. Just as when I create a portrait, I strive to chronicle everything about that individual at that particular moment in life. Appearance as well as personality, temperament and even interests. It is no longer just a portrait it is a piece of art that tells the story of that individual. And through my portraits, narrative figures, still
life and landscapes, I try to communicate what attracts me to an image. But leave enough ambiguous, that the viewer has room for his or her own story.
