Artist Statement Jennie McGregor has an atypical background from the ‘normal’ artist. She majored in math at the University of California and then spent over 20 years developing software, specializing in automation and integration of scientific and business processes. This background fed her love of detail and exploration of how the pieces fit together.

Macro photography allows Jennie to explore the world in a new way. Macro photography magnifies the small world to such a degree that you can literally see the bee’s knees. It can melt the image of a flower into a jumble of color, form and texture.

Thus far, most of Jennie’s macro photography efforts have centered on the natural world of botanicals and insects, stemming from her interest in gardening and hiking. Pure botanical prints can be sharp and concise, allowing for easy identification by a botanist. Macro photography also allows a more artistic interpretation of the subject, where the focus is more diffuse and color, texture and form become more important then the subject itself.

Jennie’s shooting range includes the gardens in her neighborhood as well as the local hills surrounding Livermore, including Mt. Diablo, Brushy Peak, Sycamore Grove, Sunol and Coyote Hills.

Please remember to view all of my galleries.

Jennie's next show is the Jewelery and Wearable Art Trunk Show, November 20 from 5:30 to 8 PM at the Livermore Art Association Gallery.

Currently, Jennie displays at the First Street Wine Company in Livermore, California and the Livermore Art Association Gallery, also in Livermore.
