Description Oil on gessoboard.I struggle to create images of the Virgin Mary. Even when I purchase statues or images, the face has to be just right. I think I did it right this time. When I finished this piece, I locked the door and did not look at it again for nearly two weeks, determined that if I liked it still after that time I knew I had produced the image that I was looking for. Well, it was.

Artist Statement My art has gone through more changes than I ever thought possible. Today I find myself painting portraits in oil. I say this with a smile because a portrait in oil was NEVER in my plan as an artist.
The work that I am making available at Imagekind is from my original works in oil on gessoboard, masonite or coldpress. Currently, I am working strictly in oil on gessoboard. The technique I employ is not very common, but is very well received by those who have seen my work. Each piece is created in one color, squeezed directly from the tube onto the board. I love to paint. I am very critical of my work. I can't simply sit down and paint a picture. Sometimes I think I am just waiting for the pictures to come to me and ask to be painted. When you take the time to look at my work I hope you will see not just a picture but the reason, need or desire for creating it.
