Description This Plein Air piece was painted in the grand canyon. I had hiked down in from Peach Springs. This is one of the Main Stops on the river as you leave the Grand Canyon and follow through the Colorado Canyon. I had hiked across the rocks to see this scrub juniper trying grow out of this outcropping of rocks. It's persistence I found very inspiring. The colors of the morning lit up the canyon walls. I had to paint this piece.
Kevin McCain, Boise Member Since June 2011 Artist Statement I am a professional artist and children's book illustrator. In my paintings I use vibrant colors and thick impasto to give my paintings a life and vitality that capture the viewer’s attention. I strive for a dreamy quality to my paintings. To make them more reminiscent of memories rather than an illustration of a particular scene. The impression of the landscape is more important than the actual content.
