Back in 2004 I figured out how to make a website, no reason, I just wanted one. From this I found Macromedia’s Dreamweaver, and from that I discovered Macromedia’s Flash, which I used to make animations. The software also used ActionScript as an object-oriented programming language, which led me down the rabbit hole to where I am now with Python and C++.

To just step back a moment, after leaving school I attended an Art college. It was here that I learnt I can’t draw, but I’ve always felt a strong desire to create something meaningful. I attempted photography as a means around my lack of talent, but quickly learnt that photography is just a more expensive route to the same conclusion I had already reached with college.

Back to my website, now around 2008, and still desperate to express myself but with no talent to express with, I turned to writing. Something that was repeatedly disclosed on my school reports that I absolutely have no talent, but what do they know.
Just to jump back a little further, to the days of a depressed teenager, I used to express myself with poetry. Again, I was awful at it, but I would never share them anyway, so I continued regardless.

Back forward again, now around 2009. I managed to write a short story called Elisabeth. Again, it was awful, but I submitted it to a writer’s magazine anyway and they published it.
I was now (technically) a published writer, so my website became a blog, and I continued to write in what became my new means to express myself.

Over the years I have come to realise that I am not very good at writing either. But for now, I’ll keep trying – as an artist that cannot paint and a poet that cannot rhyme.
