Description Etymology The scientific name Artocarpus flows of the words Greek artos = bread and karpos = fruit, and the epithet specific heterophyllus flows of the words also Greek heteron = different and phyllus = it leafs, relative to the leaves that are different (without wolves) to the one of the plant of the breadfruit. Occurrence The tree is original of India and cultivated in all of the tropical countries of the world. In Brazil and in a large part of tropical America it happens Artocarpus Interglifolia's incidence, the jaqueira. Characteristics: The tree is about twenty meters of height, provided of cup more or less pyramidal and dense, with robust trunk, from 30 to 60 centimeters of diameter, covered by peel thickens. Leaves simple, alternating, whole (lobadas just in the young individuals), stuck to the branches through a short pecolo about a centimeter of length. Plant cauliflora and monica, in other words, the masculine and feminine flowers are separate in different inflorescences in the same plant. The masculine flowers are contained in ears of corn claviformes and the feminine ones in compact ears of corn. The fruit is in originated oval way of the development of the feminine inflorescence. These are born directly of the trunk and of the thickest branches and they get to weigh up to ten kilograms and to measure up to forty centimeters of length.
