Description This is one of my earliest surviving works. I did this portrait of Jimi Hendrix in 1967 after hearing the news of his death. I was in junior high school at the time and borrowed some magic markers from a teacher. Forty years have passed but his artistry still inspires my own to this day.
Dennis Gorman, Outer Banks, NC Member Since March 2007 Artist Statement Writing about one's self can be a daunting task. I have read numerous artist's statements where its obvious they have been schooled in the arts. My father used to show me the Sunday funny papers when I was about 3 or 4 years old. He used to draw some of the cartoons for me and I would give it a try. Later, I realized he was getting me to begin reading as well as improving my eye and hand coordination. My art training did not go beyond that I am sad to say.
