Description I have had a lifelong fascination with the Impressionists paintings of 18th and 19th century bridges spanning the rivers near Paris. Few of the bridges in North Carolina even approach that age, and most are designed for utility rather than esthetics. But even the most functional bridges in our area can be beautiful in just the right light. This two-lane bridge on NC Highway 751 spans the northern end of Jordan Lake and is a fantastic place to watch birds. This painting captured the early morning light as it raked through the large round piers supporting the span of the bridge. The distant foliage was a hazy blue that gradually turned green as the sun burned off the fog.
