Description This drawing was taken from the wonderful film 'Sunday Bloody Sunday,' directed by John Schlesinger. This actress, June Brown, is in the film for about five minutes, but in that time made such an impression on me that I spent three days working on her portrait. This was perhaps my most intense attempt at expression at the time I drew it, and I did not give up until I had captured all of the nuances I wanted. In addition, the texture and color of the drawing reflect my own interaction with the subject and expression of this work.Funnily enough, Brown would go on to play the anything-but-serious Dot Cotton on the British Soap 'EastEnders,' and this portrait provided no small amusement to my British friends.
Anya Ciccone, Chicago Member Since May 2011 Artist Statement I am a self-taught artist who specializes in portraits. I can spend hours on one face alone! People and their expressions are an endless source of inspiration for me.
I look at art as a process and a concentration exercise, and I hope to convey this in my work. I hope you like interacting with the work as much as I love interacting with it myself.
