Description i have been fortunate enough to see many owls in the woods near my house in mystic, connecticut. when i was about to begin this painting, i asked the spirit of the owls i had seen to come be in this painting the way i experienced them in the woods their magic evident in their silent flight, loud calls to one another at dusk, the way they watch me with a timeless patience that hints at wisdom. i did not want to capture or control the spirit of the owls, but merely invite it to whisper to the viewer of the deep mystery and comfort the woods and its inhabitants offer to those of us who walk the paths in wonder. the path i saw so many owls on i dubbed owl loop and this owl, on silk, is the keeper of those woods and my treasured memories of being so close to the awe-inspiring spirit of the owl.
