Daniel Rex Jones, Seattle
Member Since June 2013
Artist Statement Daniel spent his childhood and schoolboy days growing up on the rural southern Oregon coast. He was the second of 4 children, his dad was an elementary teacher and principal. His mother was a homemaker and an artist.

Daniel was valedictorian of his class of '71 and an all-state athlete in track.

After a stint at the University of Miami (engineering), he was drafted into the military and spent most of his tour in "Cold War" West Germany during the Vietnam war.

Like many other veterans, past and present, Daniel was plagued by many demons such as depression, isolation, anxiety, and substance abuse. He turned to art while living on the streets and in and out of hospitals, food service jobs, detox and treatment centers.

Daniel has no former art instuction other than a biginning drawing class at Lane Community College, Eugene Oregon (1983).

Daniel came to Seattle in the spring of '90, finally got clean and sober in 1992 and took a janitor job at Daniel Smith Art Supplies where he flourished for 5 years surrounded by artists and art materials.

In 1997 Daniel graduated from Brenneke school of massage and set up his current business in West Seattle called Massage Matters.

Daniel married wife Cheryl in 1999, bought a home, and had two children at Lafayette Elementary and Madison Middle School, Kathryn (11) and Silas (9).
