Description A peasant woman, on her way home from the market, pauses to see to the physical and the emotional needs of her child. She sits on a wicker bench, one foot placed on an overflowing burlap bag filled with the corn she's carrying home. Her leg thus elevated supports her arm and the baby. For now, they are the only two people in the world. The lighting in this photograph of mine has been likened to a painting by the Dutch master Vermeer.
Mel MacSmiley, South Dakota Member Since September 2007 Artist Statement I was inspired to become a photographer while in Paris in 1979. (Read the story.) Therefore, my work spans almost 3 decades of analog and digital images. I shoot diverse subjects and create digital art as well, but I am quite prone to sunrises and sunsets. I love to create images that move the heart or evoke a hearty laugh!
With 5 million combinations of paper, mats, frames, and glazings, it can be a challenge to know where to start. Therefore, I have pre-selected an individualized frame package for each and every one of my images, which I feel complement my work most aesthetically.
