Description My family and I served at an orphanage in Africa. It was during our trips on safaris that I was inspired to paint the Big 5. I wanted to show the majestic nature of the animals as if they were Kings getting their portrait taken. On the great halls of wild life the Big 5 would adorn the walls.
Heath Locke, California Member Since February 2009 Artist Statement “As with all artists, painting reveals who I am.” I live in the moment and avoid ruminating on the past. This philosophy of staying connected to the present directly affects my artwork, as many pictures are painted without a background; without context. My work intentionally focuses great detail on the subject, leaving the definition of context up to the viewer’s own imagination.
From the towering mountains of Asia and the bustling streets of Europe, to the expansive lands of Africa; I have traveled the world fulfilling my personal passion of helping underprivileged individuals. My family and I just returned to the United States after living in Africa for a year serving the poor and the orphaned. I gained valuable insight into how minimal resources can be multiplied to generate sustainable living in third world nations.
