Artist Statement Elisheva Shira is an American-born and trained artist living in Israel. She holds a Bachelor's degree from Parson's School of Design in N.Y.C. and a Master's of Fine Art from Suny New Paltz. She has exhibited her work in the U.S. and abroad. She is now living in the hills outside of Jerusalem, Israel, with her husband and five children.
She paints as a means to express the beauty, warmth and spiritual simplicity of everyday lives in Israel, as well as the incredible wonder of the Land that surrounds them.

My artwork revolves around the axis of my life; the home, the community, the Land.
I live on the edge of a windy mountain in the hills outside of Jerusalem, Israel. Here I found a unique place and love in the soil, air & ever changing landscape. A place to raise my family and share a community with people I love and respect.
My paintings are an expression of the desire to share my vision of everyday life( the small and large things) that add to the pleasure of being a blessed creation of HaShem; of creating a home. The beets & garlic in a basket waiting to be prepared, a child reading quietly in a corner with concentration so intense it is as if in meditation, the flowers in a vase my husband brought home to me on Friday afternoon, relationships between mother & children, men & women, and the kaleidoscope of nature; clouds & sun, mist & rain, colors & light, shapes, shadows, and changing seasons, all this I have tried to convey in my work, primarily using the medium of pastels and oil painting in an impressionist style.
I have been most influenced by the works of Monet, Van Gogh, & Barnard. I thank them for their insistence of portraying the everyday and their exciting use of color to break boundaries, showing the sparking effects of light on color. I also appreciate the images of Cassatt & Morisot for their intimate portrayal of the relationship amongst women and children as well as the realm of the family.
