Artist Statement I was born Feb. 23, 1972 in Dallas, TX. with wide eyes, a large imagination, creative nature and of course an artistic temperament where I lived until moving to Seattle, WA. in 2005. Color and textures have been an obsession since my earliest memories. I was a quiet child who soaked up everything around me in reality; the pretty and the ugly. This fueled my need to live in imagination but never forgetting, carrying everything along with a desire for change. I started drawing before the age of 5 moving on to coloring books which later in life I would realize my painting style. I am a self taught artist with the exception of basic learning in grade school. I started drawing with pencil, portraits mainly often asked for commission work but I grew bored with it somewhere in my 20's feeling I was just making copies. I had a short block where i could not create until someone introduced me to oil paint at the age of 25 instantly hooked. Obsessed with color and textures I fell in love with paint and its way of having its own life not easily controlled like drawing. It has been a constant in my life ever since. I would describe my art as dark - pretty wanting to find beauty in all the ugly. Human expression and form is largely my subject of choice. I dabble with other mediums as well as subject matter. To date I have well over 500 painted works of art and an unknown number of lost art. Lost art being by painting over other art.. layers. I was urged to take more photos so others can see what I paint over without much thought being my biggest critic. That artistic temperament changing paintings and subject matter by a mood, memory, insanity, intensity, or need. I paint with a weird since of humor. Sometimes painted with intent, sometimes a sweet little accident. A great deal of other artist inspire me Picasso, Frida, Dali, Matisse being at the top. I play with different styles a hint of the old world with a big dash of pop. By default seemingly abstract - surreal: often with very real subject matter and expression. For me art is an escape, a record of one's life and history: emotional, alluring, disturbing, inspiring.
