Artist Statement PROFILE

During a fellowship at Frank Lloyd Wrights' Taliesin West I gained an appreciation of the integration of environment into design. I also have degrees in art, interior design and architecture. I taught architecture in California and Design in Utah. My pieces are abstract forays into imagination which bring light, life and explosive color into a space. The art is ideal in a public or private space because it allows the people of the environment to be the main foci, while the pieces are catalysts for interaction and connection.

My art begins with a photo of anything from anywhere and is evolved into a canvas of color, texture, light and intimations of movement. These pieces leave the interpretation and involvement up to the viewer; I do not aim for hidden meaning or metaphor. I play with all design elements to achieve the resultant effect. Inspiration comes from photography of travel in Asia, Africa, Europe etc. When describing a piece I may say, “That began as a photo of tree bark in Ghana.”
