Artist Statement I was practically born with a camera in my hands. My father was a professional photographer. He had a portraiture studio where he used a large format view camera with 8x10 BW sheet film to capture some of the most stunning portraits I have ever seen. My school breaks were spent messing around darkrooms and studios; learning from a team of highly talented professionals who helped my father run his business. Whether being amazed at how an 11x14 sheet of white paper turns into a stunning photograph, like magic; watch my dad spend an hour posing and lighting his subjects for a memorable portrait; or learn the delicate art of negative retouching, these are the fun memories of my growing-up years.
Today I am an amateur photographer. My interest has been in abstract photo-art; where Color, Texture and Form are the primary elements. Making the ordinary look extra-ordinary has always been a curiosity of mine; abstraction helps me achieve that. Above all art is meant to be fun and visually interesting. I hope that some of my photographs will engage your wildest imaginations!
All the images in my collection are edits of single-exposure photographs. No montages and no collages.
I welcome your critique.
Nicolas.
