Artist Statement LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL, RECORD IT.
Robin’s passion for photography manifested itself during many camping safari excursions into the wilderness as a tour guide in Namibia and Botswana during his twenty two years living in Namibia from 1985 to 2007. This allowed him to delve deeply into nature’s diverse and largely unexplored belly. The sheer beauty, isolation and vastness of African landscapes and the people, flora, fauna and geology of the mysterious Namib and Kalahari Deserts continue to this day to be his inspiration.
His work in social research as project manager for research projects such as situation analyses on orphans and vulnerable children, gender-based violence, early childhood development, social impact assessments and HIV/AIDS mitigation for clients such as UNICEF, World Bank, government ministries and NGO’s in developing African and other countries, allows him to travel extensively and enjoy incredible experiences, as well as take advantage of wonderful photographic opportunities. He has worked in South Africa, where he now lives in Knysna, Namibia, Botswana, Mozambique, Swaziland, DRC and Rwanda in Africa as well as Tajikistan in Central Asia.
During April 2009 he held an exhibition at a well known, week long arts and culture festival in Oudtshoorn, South Africa known as the Klein Karroo Nationale Kunsfees or KKNK.
Robin prefers capturing images "accidently", making use of natural light rather than "setting them up" using artificial light. Photographic images with a striking dash of colour, especially red, or oxblood, in a monochromatic scene and printed onto a large canvas, is what he presently enjoys creating and selling at a number of outlets along the Garden Route in South Africa and now through his website robinweeks.imagekind.com. Robin hopes that you, the viewer or ....................... possible prospective buyer ..................................
might enjoy them too.
