Description Boulder is the type of place, that whenever I leave... I'm always happy to return. No matter if it was a day trip to the mountains, or an overseas adventure for weeks, the Flatirons are always a sight for sore eyes. This is my rendition of the Flatirons from Marshall Mesa, looking Northwest...(of course there's some super-psychedelic butterflies and hairy purple flowers thrown into the mix for kicks)This piece completes the compass for me, so-to-speak. I have drawn the Flatirons from the west, north, east, and now, the south... it all tends to come full-circle as I find myself diggin this place as much as I did the day I first moved here...
Phil Lewis, Boulder, CO Member Since October 2007 Artist Statement Throughout my life I have always felt a special connection to nature, and being outdoors inspires me to create. The amazing scenery in Colorado has certainly fueled this inspiration, and the surrounding landscapes appear frequently in my work. In addition to drawing the things I see around me, I also like to draw the things I come up with on my own. To imagine is the most fun.
Lately I have been developing a style of artwork that combines pen drawings and digital design. I will start out with black line drawings and then color them in with Sharpie and Prismacolor markers. I then scan my drawings into Photoshop and re-brush some of the sections, add shading, effects, and adjust the colors until they “pop” as much as possible. I then print the images digitally on fine-art canvas. The resulting media is a hybrid pen-drawing / digital-canvas, which ends up looking like a giant piece of candy stuck to the wall.
I am truly humbled and grateful for the ability to create this art, and through it, I hope to bring as much color and light into the world as I can.
