Christopher Mitchell, Fort Luaderdale, FL Member Since February 2020 Artist Statement CJMitchell ARTWORKS
Artwork has been in my soul since birth in the LA suburbs. Sketching with anything I could get my hands on--pencil, charcoal, paints of any kind, it all started long before I began public school and continued throughout my teens and into adulthood through University days. Drawing inspiration from diverse places around me, the Hollywood Hills, the bluffs of Long Beach and directly from my own imagination, artwork was at the center point. Refining my eye to the beauty in the "odd", the "castoffs" or the" irreverent", I took inspiration from Diane Arbus initially, and many of the modernist painters such as Rothko, Kandinsky, Pollack, the disturbing, yet profound photography of Joel-Peter Witkin, and of course Robert Laughlin. From his inspiration, I started the "blue collar" series to which I keep adding --"chef" the "mad mechanic", and several others. Now you can find and purchase my work online using Imagekind, where they make reproductions affordable, in any size, framed or unframed, to fit your home perfectly.
"I have only these requirements for my art-- that it make you think, laugh or just be disturbing".
