Artist Statement In 1975, I was extremely fortunate to attend a seminar taught by Ansel Adams. Mr. Adams explained that he felt fortunate if he were able to end up with 12 photos in a year which ‘’made an impact and met his expectations.’’ Many photographers do not utilize digital technology because they believe digital technology distracts photography from the arts and believe film keeps photography pure. I remember Mr. Adams lecturing on technology, and specifically computerized color heads and color analyzers. Mr. Adams made the statement that if technology improves an artists ability to create a piece of art that brings them closer to their intended goals, then artists, including photographers should embrace technical tools.

In photography, I strive to create photographic art, not just take pictures. Most people do not realize what goes into creating art with a camera. Light is everything! Up before dawn and waiting for the few moments of perfect light… and then again most of the time the light may not reach your expectations. Most people are not willing to invest the time nor the energy to achieve quality results. I have found nature photography to be very similar to hunting. Stalking that elusive prey… the perfect light, the perfect composition and the photo which makes an impact!

It is my hope that my photos will have an impact and inspire an appreciation in for the photographic arts. I love the outdoors and you may note that most of my work reflects our national parks and wild areas. If after viewing my photographs you are compelled to take a trip to Yosemite, the Grand Canyon or the Pacific coast… I have been successful in my endeavor. If you take along a camera, all the better!

I wish you Good Light!
