Artist Statement I began my journey in the visual arts as a young girl drawing portraits of favorite actors. When I reached high school, I took art classes every chance I got. Each school year, I would typically have several pieces in the local student art show and at least one would win a ribbon, typically first or second place. During these years, my skills in painting and drawing developed along with my love for color and whimsical design.

In college, I found photography and took to it at the start. By the end of my first semester at Eastfield College, I had joined the EtCetera newspaper staff as the Assistant Photo Editor. When the Photo Editor moved on, they promoted me to Photo Editor. I managed a staff of about 5 or 6 photographers. We went on to win various Texas Collegiate Press Association awards such as best front page color photo (Halloween issue 1994) and best literary magazine cover. During my years as a college student and beyond, I still continued to take classes in the fine arts, particularly painting, fashion illustration and graphic design, as well as creative arts photography (alternative processes) to hone my artistic skills.

More recently, I returned to school to finish my Bachelor’s degree in art with an emphasis on photography and graphics, including digital video. I graduated with that degree in Art & Performance last May with honors. I shoot events such as weddings and parties and love creating my own photo opportunities. I still paint and illustrate and am seeking to break into the children’s story illustration market with my painting and illustration, since my whimsical style seems to appeal to such an audience. I may be able to use my photography for that market as well. I enjoy working with children as I continue in the arts. I joined Dallas Makerspace this year and am returning to some of the more traditional photographic techniques, some of which are over 100 years old, as well as a return to archival darkroom printing.

On the side, I perform with a small professional ballet company, millermuller, and enjoy tutoring students and fostering their love for reading. My other interests include gardening, cooking, sewing (occasionally), swimming and some social sports such as beach volleyball. I love the beach and the water and when I get a chance, I enjoy water skiing.
