Description The first in a series of animal portraits. I painted the chimpanzee using oils on canvas from a photo of this amazing creature who is a surrogate mother to orphan chimps rescued by the Monkey World Ape Rescue Centre. She has been a constant companion of mine for a few years now; the image hangs on my wall amongst pictures of family and friends where ever I live. Her gaze is wise and kind, vulnerable and curious.
Talisa Tulip, Sydney Member Since May 2007 Artist Statement After visiting a gallery absolutely everything looks like a work of art to me. I love to see beauty in unlikely places, if I am to be perfectly honest, it is my raison d’etre. Identifying as an artist gives me the inner freedom I need in order to comment, observe and interact with humans and other creatures in creative ways, making sense out of the world we inhabit.
I am also an art educator. I enjoy connecting teenagers with interesting artists, ideas and concepts in the visual arts.
