Description The CIRCUS UTOPIA original paintings are a cycle of paintings on loose, rough sewn canvas. After the painting process has been completed, the canvases are brought outside to weather; they are being laid out on the walkway to be stepped on by hesitant, confident, ignorant feet. Snow and ice will cover them, warm weather re-expose them. Other paintings are being hung from clothing lines or wire in a changing outdoor exhibition the constellation of canvases creating airy, movable, nomadic spaces. One morning in November 2007 an ice storm had completely encased the canvases with a perfect pane of transparent ice: generosity and whim of nature added to low key human creation.Weather, exposure to the environment and ageing are processes that are documented in the canvas memory through a softening and breaking of fabric and color layers. In the tradition of the circus tent the canvases can be rolled, unrolled, travel easily. Friends borrow the flags for exhibition in their front yards, thereby declaring their kinship to the nomadic life of their own human past and the political present today. CIRCUS UTOPIA reminds us of our common human conditions for survival: acknowledgement of our own fragility as well as dependence on our environment and a sense of dark humor to find meaning and dignity in our existence. The Fine Art Prints allow art lovers everywhere to adopt one of the Circus Utopia images for their own world.
