Melissa Taurisano, Providence, Rhode Island Member Since January 2009 Artist Statement I am an artist based out of Providence, Rhode Island. Known for creating works based on artistic solutions rather than commercial trends, I am an artist who creates fine art, graphic design, and literary works. I am a realist painter and I rely on traditional techniques when painting. Recreating the beauty of the human form is the basis for my art. Whether painting a nude woman, or a smiling child, I have always found the human form to have the perfect ability to express the essence of existence. My imagery is celebratory, humorous, and alive. Undercurrents of sensuality and feminism are interwoven in many of the nudes that I create.
I was born in Utica, New York in 1978 and moved to Providence, Rhode Island in 1996. There, I earned a B.A. in Painting from Rhode Island College, so my basis for creative problem solving lies in the Fine Arts. After I moved to Phoenix in 2004, I then earned an A.A.S. in Graphic Design from the Art Institute of Phoenix and worked as a Creative Director for No Limit Publishing in Tempe Arizona. During this time, I created various author campaigns, which included cover art and the layout of books, collateral design, and web-based design. I also have a B.S. in Art Education and I currently develop and teach Visual Arts curriculum.
I am also a published author. My book is titled, Milkshakes and Mouth-guards: Strange and Sordid Tales of the Dominatrix and it is categorized as Dark Humor.
