Artist Statement Turning Dreams, Ideas, and Memories into works of Art

I was born in 1958, married in 1977, raised 3 sons and currently live with my wife of 36 years, Sharon, in the south central United States in S.E Oklahoma.

The thing I have learned regarding doing artwork is simply: I enjoy my art most when I was able to make a heartfelt connection, a lot like a symbiotic relationship with the canvas, the paints, as well the subject on the canvas. The artwork flows more relaxed, less “uptight.” That comes out in the paintings.

I started oil painting upon receiving a paint by number oil painting set, for my 9th birthday. I loved the feel of the oils as they flowed off the brush. After that day I would use my allowance to buy another "set" then ignore the topic on the card and paint my own subjects, mostly tall ships and water scenes.
I was always comparing my art to those in school I thought were better at drawing so my art stayed private, eventually lost to moves and time.

I finally began showing and selling my art after spending April 26 & 27, 2013 with Dale Adkins ( https://www.facebook.com/pages/Dale-Adkins/505817049429892 ) here in the Atoka/ Durant area, at which time Dale told me to "quit hiding your work under a barrel and get it out there for others to enjoy!"
