Roger Lirette is a Frenchman from the province of Quebec. His education was mainly in Business Administration and he had been a very successful businessman until his talent for painting became apparent, and combined with his love for the sea he decided to abandon his business profession to become a full time artist. Lirette’s education in art consists of three years in fine art at the College des Beaux-Art, Montreal, Canada, one year at Cabrillo College, Santa Cruz, California, and many hours of private study with master seascape artists. Mr. Lirette wanted to create the sea in natural lifelike detail, hoping to give the feeling of being within them so he studied books on Oceanography in order to intensify the authenticity of his work. His two years in the French Merchant Marine at an early age also helped. It was after immigrating to the United States of America to the magnificent and rugged coastline of California with the very beautiful sunset that his approach to color and lifelike detail of wave and sea finally matured. He lived overlooking the Monterey Bay of California. He has traveled the coastline from the southern tip of Mexico to the northern Canadian border, most of the Hawaiian Islands, the tropical islands of the Philippines, to the Mediterranean and the beautiful Islands of Greece, studying and painting the sunset by the sea. If you stare at his paintings and forget the world around you for a moment his unique softness and etherealness will give you the feeling of total serenity which many will find difficult to take your eyes away from. Mr. Lirette’s paintings can be found in private collections and homes all over the United States, Canada and Europe.
