Artist Statement While growing up, my father was in the Canadian Military and between the ages of 6 and 16, we lived a total of 6 years in Europe, mostly Germany. As many people do in Europe during holiday seasons, my parents would take my little brother and I exploring. During each of our trips to surrounding countries such as France, Italy, Holland, and Austria we’d visit every museum along the way. And between stops, sitting in the back seat of the car, I’d revel in the marvelous colors, textures and vibrations of the passing countryside. It was a great adventure which left an indelible stamp on my psyche and which influences every painting I create today.

I became a full-time professional artist in 1989, after creating art most of my life. Leaving behind a thriving video production company in Toronto for the uncertainty of fine art seemed very risky at the time, but fortunately passion overruled.

Today, I am extremely blessed to be working in my dream studio, a spacious 1800 square foot renovated warehouse in Windsor, Ontario, literally 1 km away from the US border. Just as in my youth, many of my weekends are spent exploring the landscape in both Ontario and Michigan, looking at the colors, textures and vibrations of the landscape. Eventually these impressions find their way into my abstract “Colorscape” and “Colorfield” paintings.

To me, the process of painting is a magical, almost spiritual encounter with the canvas. It’s the transfer of fleeting impressions onto a tangible surface. My greatest delight comes when someone senses an internal energy within a painting which stimulates a forgotton memory or subconconsious association. At that moment we have communicated on some mysterious level and the cycle of creation is complete.
