Description In the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, the onset of Spring can be marked by the blooming of Redbud and Dogwood. Usually the Redbud blooms first, and one to three weeks later, along come the Dogwood blossoms. The Redbuds reach their peak just before or just after the Dogwoods start blooming. Blossoms on both trees coexist for only a week or two. When the Redbud trees are covered only in green foliage, the Dogwoods will still bear their distinctive white bracts. That one or two week period of overlap in early Spring is my favorite time for visiting the Smokies.
Allan Carrano, Spartanburg, SC Member Since July 2016 Artist Statement I've been an avid photographer most of my adult life, but I found a more secure livelihood in being a scientist...my other talent; not that I haven't had success as an amateur and part time professional photographer. I've been published in magazines and scenic calendars. I've also won awards, including Kodak's International Newspaper Awards (KINSA). Among some 250,000 entries, my photo placed 2nd in the color category, and was exhibited at Kodak's Epcot Pavilion in Disney World and in National Geographic Explorers Hall in Washington, D.C. Now that I've entered my retirement years, I am devoting full time to creating photographic art and sharing the results through Imagekind.
