Artist Statement Hi there, I'm is a professional artist living and working in Ruakaka. My award-winning landscape paintings grace private and corporate collections worldwide and are renowned for the light which is captured in them.
Having trained and worked as a graphic designer for several years,
I took the leap as a full time artist in 2001 when I got married and travelled to Europe and held my first solo exhibition in London. After painting my way around Europe, my wife Helen and I returned to New Zealand and settled in Ruakaka.
My subsequent exhibition of Northland coastal scenes was a sellout success and I have built on that reputation of excellence over the past 6 years. In 2002 I won the Telecom Art Scholarship for Northland and later published a series of prints, a calendar, a set of placemats, postcards, have taken on a tutoring role and appeared numerous times in published media and television. I'm represented by seven galleries from Parua Bay down to Queenstown. In 2006 I was amongst 60 artists in the prestigious "New Zealand's Favorite Artists" book and in 2007 featured in the "12 Contemporary New Zealand Artists" Calendar.
I am doubly blessed to have a job which gives me so much satisfaction and at the same time gives others pleasure. That's why I enjoy painting commissions so much too, because these places hold so many precious memories for people.
