Artist Statement I paint for the joy of it. My passion is both the power of the natural world and the way people interact with it. I like to paint local scenery, and still lifes. Everything I see, everywhere I look, a painting waits to come to life. A poet puts together words to express his feelings: I put together a painting or a drawing.
My name is Penny. I live and work in Yadkinville, NC. It is a small rural community in the foothills of North Carolina. Farming and raising livestock is a big part of the community here. I think growing up in a rural community has influenced my paintings. I love the history and the past you can envision in the old farm homes in the area.
I have a wonderful husband and two wonderful children and three grandchildren. I work full time and wake in the morning early enough to enjoy the first break of the sun over the horizon and I generally get in about 2 hours of painting before work. In the evenings I try to paint about another 2 hours sometimes longer (if allowed by hubby).
Something amazing happens when I pick up a pencil or a paint brush. I can't begin to place into words that feeling when I am sitting in my studio with my brushes and pencils. My art is one of the things in my life that I know that I can believe in and trust without the enormous demands that surrounds my daily life. I take great pride in being recognized as an ARTIST.
