Description A Flight photograph of the Brown Pelican (Pelecanus occidentalis, taken from the Seven Mile Bridge, Connecting Knight's Key and Little Duck Key in Monroe County, The Florida Keys, USA. A wonderful opportunity to get pretty much at eye level to this intriguing bird. Judging from the scratches and scarring on his bill and pouch, he has seen a few season through and lived life to the full :0). These birds are a firm favourite of mine and, while they are cumbersome and ungainly (and really rather comical) on land, they are elegant and graceful when they glide on the air currents above the sea, where they are masters of flight, tending to glide rather than flap. I love these birds!
