Description Passengers aboard the White Pass and Yukon Route Railroad. This narrow gauge railroad was built in 1898 during the Klondike gold rush and ran from Skagway, Alaska to Whitehorse in the Yukon. It has been declared an International Historic Civil Engineering Landmark - a designation shared with the Panama Canal, the Eiffel Tower and the Statue of Liberty. Today it is run as a heritage railway between Skagway and White Pass, about half the original length.
