Artist Statement My mother used to tell me I had “animal magnetism” because animals liked me. My first pet sitting job was caring for a neighbor’s German shepherd when I was 10 years old.

I grew up in Rolling Meadows IL, a suburb of Chicago, and moved to the Monterey Peninsula to attend the Monterey Institute in 1982. I stayed on the Peninsula, and pet sat occasionally for friends from 1988-2002. I have owned two sheep dogs, an Australian shepherd and a Briard, and enjoyed competing in obedience trials with the Briard. When I was laid off during the dot.com meltdown, I decided to do what I love for a living, and started doing more pet sitting.

I am a writer and photographer as well as a pet sitter, having published 7 books about companion birds and bird care including “Cockatiels For Dummies.” I live with a small flock of cockatiels, a blue-headed pionus parrot and a guinea pig. Occasionally I speak at bird club meetings or national avicultural symposiums. I write a "Small Birds" column for BIRD TALK magazine.

I love the Monterey Peninsula and take photos here as well as scenic and architectural photos when I travel. I photograph my client pets and other animals I encounter. A fellow pet sitter, Ginny, and I have produced a series of books featuring my photos and our haiku poems: Dogku, Catku, Petku, Bassetku and now... RESKU about rescued dogs.
