Artist Statement Sierra Busch recently received a B.A. in Fine Art Studio with a minor in Business Administration. Growing up in the Appalachian Mountains and learning about her Native American culture, Sierra maintained a strong connection to nature and grew a deep-rooted respect for all living things. The spiritual beauty in nature and the interconnection between ourselves and the natural world inspire her artwork, infusing it with her passion for life and its myriad of forms. Meanings, both literal and elusive, allow the viewer a visceral, emotional experience. Her work has been shown in both group and solo exhibitions in several locations in Georgia, as well as Italy, and has brought attention to important issues such as hydraulic fracturing, pesticide use, and the disregard for nature in our modern lives. Her Native American background offers a unique perspective on these practices and the effects on the human condition. Although primarily an acrylic painter, Sierra loves experimenting with new ways to combine mediums and enjoys using textural and intuitive mark making to express the energy she finds in nature. Her experience includes assisting professional artists, teaching performing arts and fine art classes, and working in an artist’s co-op gallery. Sierra interned at Mesa Arts Center in Arizona this summer and is now living in Washington, DC to pursue her career as an artist.
