DescriptionPortrait of James is an abstract painting of an imaginary person in strong violet and red tones. From my series Facing Abstraction, the originalpainting was acrylic on paper. This series was created quickly, mostly with palette knives. Brushes were used sparingly for finishing touches and to bring the faces into stronger focus. The orignal image was painted in a small 5x7' greeting card format, then digitally scanned for larger format prints. I named this one James because I see a strong resemblance to the writer James Baldwin. Do you see it? Hint: His eyes are closed.
