Description Watercolor 11x15; Photo courtesy of Leon Bridges; It was honored to paint a portrait of Leon Bridges, FAIA, This painting will be submitted for the Portraits of Architects exhibit. The exhibit was organized in 2015 by the AIA Women in Design committee to celebrate the achievement of 22 local women architects who have achieved the status of AIA Fellow. The AIA College of Fellows are members elected to Fellowship by a jury of their peers as an acknowledgement of their contribution to the profession. AIA Seattle has elected 194 fellows in its chapter history. 22 of these fellows are women and 8 are individuals of diverse backgrounds. This portrait will be one of the 8 diverse fellows.Leon Bridges was born on August 18, 1932 in the East Los Angeles, founded the second African American-owned architecture firm in Seattle, then he relocated his firm to Baltimore and became the first African American architect in Maryland. In 1971, his colleagues elected Leon Bridges to service on the AIA national Board of Directors. He is also a member of the counsel of the National Organization of Minority Architects (NOMA), for which he has served in every national office, including president. In 1986, he received recognition of the national significance of his community service by induction into the AIA College of Fellows. Leon Bridges has received more than 20 national, regional and local awards for design excellence. He now mentors the next generation of architects as a professor at Morgan State University.
Lisa Lu, State of Washington Member Since March 2009 Artist Statement Lisa first started painting with color pencils at the age of 10, and she has always loved to paint ever since; it allows her to express feelings with a peaceful mind. Self-taught and self-developed in watercolor and ink painting, each of Lisa's painting is a journey to adventure. Lisa presently resides with her husband and their son in the State of Washington. She is a licensed architect, and currently works in an architecture firm, while continuing self study and painting on architecture and landscape subjects in watercolors.
